【開催趣旨】

世界的に緊急対応が求められている外来種問題ですが、中でも外来哺乳類は生物多様性のみならず、農業等の産業や人間の生活にまで多大な影響を及ぼすことで喫緊の対応が求められています。外来哺乳類の防除戦略については、2008年に沖縄で国際シンポジウムが開催されましたが、その後15年間の間に日本をはじめ世界各地で防除にも大きな進展が見られました。しかし一方で、まだ解決できていない問題も多く残されていることも事実です。そこで、世界における外来哺乳類防除の過去及び現在までの知見と経験を集約し、未来の効果的・効率的防除の在り方を探るという目的で国際シンポジウムの開催を企画いたしました。本シンポジウムは、当初は2020年に開催予定でしたが、COVID-19の感染拡大で中止となってしまいました。今回は未だ予測不能なCOVID-19感染状況を鑑み、オンライン開催といたします。英語－日本語の同時通訳システムを採用いたしますので、外来哺乳類防除に関わる多くの関係者の方々のご参加をお待ちいたしております。

【Purpose】

Although the issue of alien species has become an urgent issue worldwide, the issue of alien mammals in particular needs urgent attention as they have a tremendous impact not only on biodiversity but also on industries such as agriculture and human life. An international symposium on control strategies of invasive alien mammals was held in Okinawa in 2008, and significant progress has been made in the control of such mammals in Japan and other parts of the world over the next 15 years. On the other hand, it is also true that there are still many unresolved issues. Therefore, we have organized an international symposium to bring together past and present knowledge and experience in the management of invasive alien mammals in the world and to explore how to effectively and efficiently control them in the future. This symposium was originally scheduled to be held in 2020 but was cancelled due to the outbreak of COVID-19. In view of the still unpredictable situation of COVID-19 infection, this time the symposium will be held online. We will employ a simultaneous English-Japanese interpretation system and look forward to the participation of many people involved in the management of invasive alien mammals.
